The department

Patients with burns need special treatment. The danger of infection also means that the burn center is set up differently from the other wards in the hospital.

The burn center has four boxes and four two-person wards. A box is a specially equipped room for one person where the treatment team can give the patient intensive care.

Box or ward

Whether a patient is admitted to a box or to a two-person ward depends on various factors:

    • the depth and extent of the burns;
    • the age and health of the patient;
    • the location of the burns (a face or neck burn, for example);
  • breathing problems arising from the inhalation of heat or smoke.
